![]() In the anime, the Titans didn’t seem to have any kind of expression to killing or reaction to being attacked. That is not to say that the Titans in the anime weren’t just as monstrous. In direct comparison to the anime, the live action Titans were more believable as vile, horrid creatures. From their atrocious, unsightly figures to their menacing laughter as they trampled through the village and munched away on the humans they came across, the Titans in the live action film truly embodied the fact that they were monsters. The Titans in the live action film were, most certainly, frightful. Had I not been in public, I would have applauded for the perfectly executed scene of the Colossal Titan’s attack. The use of a deep roaring sound, enormous amounts of smoke, flashes of light and sporadic movements made the Colossal Titan appear visually glorious, God-like and was absolutely a colossus. What posed the biggest impact, for me personally, was the arrival of the Colossal Titan. In addition, the live action scenery appeared to fall in line with that in the anime, to which I was delighted for I had been slightly worried that the live action film would attempt to do too much and give the impression of being grossly unnatural. The filming techniques and effects used certainly made me feel as if I was part of the movie, drawing me into the world on-screen and easily kept me on my toes, wondering when the tides would turn and the dreary skies would clear to signify some sort of victory. From the crisp colours in the opening scenes depicting a peaceful life within the walls to the dark, gloomy grey of the world post-Titan attack, nothing seemed out-of-place and the depiction of the great wall keeping the Titans out was on point, appearing larger than life, robust and almost menacing in a way that one could easily understand why some of the people behind the wall felt imprisoned. The live action film did a fantastic job of making a world with Titans appear realistic. Last night, a group of us headed along to the live action screening and the movie didn’t disappoint, albeit there being several moments of shock, confusion, comparisons to the anime and dare I say, moments of adulation for the daring inclusions of the most unnecessary and bizarre scenes that left me asking one simple thing, “why?” ![]() With such praise and a demand for more, a live action film was developed to satisfy the needs of fans who are currently awaiting (some, such as myself, rather impatiently) for more episodes and volumes of the anime and manga respectively. A popular series created by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan rose to popularity almost instantly and has been a huge commercial success, with the anime series gaining critical acclaim and the manga selling over 52.5 million copies worldwide. It is also an interesting horror adventure. There are many themes that have struck me, and I want to talk about. The direction was entrusted to Andy Muschetti, which many of you will know for directing the first and second part of Stephen King’s It, which in 2019 had shown his great passion for the series: “I am fascinated by the Attack of the Giants. A handful of images throughout the game actually play on a loop like an animated sequence. Fortunately, you adjust to the older style as you play, in part due to the pleasantly surprising animated CGs. Background art and scenery is still good quality, but character design looks ugly and archaic compared to newer titles. In short, searching for that next clue can be incredibly frustrating, and the game never provides advice on how to proceed.Ī quick look at the screenshots to the right clearly show the game has not aged well visually. In fact, the game never even indicates that such a strategy is possible. In the same way, it’s difficult to know when to switch between Kojiroh’s and Marina’s stories in order to progress the other. Often I became completely stumped, only to revisit an area I had been a moment ago and, inexplicably, something new then happened. Not clicking on that shrubbery one final time may completely halt your progress. To acquire all the information needed from a character, or to fully examine an object, you may need to click the same text option up to five times. A good portion of the game is simply trial and error as you wander around from place to place, trying to determine how to progress the story. The actual gameplay is not without issues either. Likewise, if you save in the middle of a scene, loading the game then puts you back at the start of that scene without warning. Even a simple help text box (or manual) could have remedied the confusion. Yes, it was partly my fault, but the game never explains how to save each story in the same file. Saving is just as problematic and, at one point, I accidently erased Kojiroh’s game while trying to save Marina’s. Additionally, skipping voiced text is rather difficult for fast readers, and can only be done by an awkward simultaneous left and right mouse click. You can read text by left-clicking or pressing Enter, but they are often fiddly and unresponsive. Just like a point and click adventure, it’s up to you, the player, to determine where to go next and how to put the pieces of the mystery together.Ĭonsidering how excited I was by the gameplay, it’s a true shame the controls drastically marred the experience. Though Kojiroh’s and Marina’s separate stories share some locations, there are still a couple of dozen unique locales to explore. For most of the game, you’re still reading text, but in-between you can pick where to go next, who to talk to, or what to examine/interact with in the environment around you. Instead, I found an adventure/novel hybrid with true exploration. Upon starting the game for the first time, I expected a typical text-heavy visual novel that required little interaction. If you’re looking for an intense and exciting story with believable characters, then EVE: Burst Error is the game for you. There are new characters introduced frequently throughout the game, and each is just as interesting as the last. The strange, but adorable, ‘Puddin is a puzzle from the start, and the relationship between Kojiroh and ex-girlfriend/co-worker Yayoi is substantial and realistic. Vulgar but likeable Kojiroh and headstrong Marina are the highlight of the show (as they should be), but even secondary characters are equally fascinating. Pushing the story forward is a cast of intriguing and appealing characters, aided by a strong vocal cast. The twists and turns put me on the edge of my seat right until the finale. The story is exciting, well-paced and keeps you guessing until the end. These two stories initially appear quite disparate, but slowly merge to piece together a dark and enigmatic thriller. Kojiroh is a private investigator down on his luck, tasked with recovering a piece of art, while beautiful intelligence agent Marina must protect the daughter of a Japanese embassy official. The plot follows two separate investigations with two separate protagonists. Well, for those of you who enjoy adventure games or visual novels, you should be jumping for joy that they did! Despite ghastly controls, EVE: Burst Error presents a compelling story worth experiencing. Considering C’s Ware’s visual novel EVE: Burst Error was originally released in 1995, it seemed an unlikely target for MangaGamer to translate in 2012. ![]() ![]() I also removed the dark part from the roof line as there was no way to make it straight in the photo. I loved the composition of the shot, but the crooked wooden partition drove me crazyĪfter: by cropping the image to make sure the wood partition was straight, your eye is now drawn to the bride instead of the crooked photo. This will also help give you an idea of where you should be concentrating on while taking a photo. I have drawn a red line on the before so you can see the exact location I will be editing for. This important step will help boost your shot from “mediocre” to “amazing”. Although some are subtle, others are very noticeable and overall make for a better photo. I have included a before and after so you can see the difference it makes. Here are some examples of things to watch for when shooting different subjects. Just think about it for a second and decide what it would be like if it was naturally occurring. Sometimes you will take a shot of trees or mountains, or other nature-y stuff that doesn’t really have any lines or horizons. It will trick your mind into thinking that things are leaning one way or another, even if they aren’t. When lines are not straight, it will throw off the perception of the photo. There is a good chance those places will have floors and walls, or other types of lines in your shot, these lines should also be straight. Not all of the shots you will take in your life will be outside.duh! Heaps of them will probably be inside taken in various locations. ![]() I don’t have the horizon in my shot, what are you talking about? ![]() And so, unless you are drunk, or are going for some completely whacky artsy over the top shot, your horizon should always be straight. But the reality is, although our earth is not flat ( sorry to burst your bubble), the horizon is always straight when you look at it. ![]() I hadn’t noticed before, and my friends and family never notice it in their shots (until I point it out … sorry guys). and I’ll be dammed the horizon was totally crooked and now it stood out.įor those of us that have never been trained in photography, or those that don’t shoot on a regular basis, we generally wouldn’t notice that it’s crooked. How dare someone tell me something was ruining my shot? I loved the shot, I took the shot. I remember the first time someone said to me “hey this is a cool pic but umm your horizon is totally crooked and it’s ruining the shot”. ![]() And let’s face it, it’s impossible to have a crooked horizon occurring in nature when it’s always 100% straight. If things look crooked, it will trick our subconscious into thinking that things are off balance, and it will throw off our perception. We love things are are level instead of being at add odd angles. How many times have you been so caught-up in the moment you just snap away not really paying attention to the finer details, like making sure your horizon is straight?
